or maybe this is a system? CONTENT??? either way

The vision here is that instead of having a billion different lightbulbs and tubes in fabs you just have a base type for each major kinda bulb. Or maybe you get the option for a warm bulb and a cool tube. Basic stuff.

"But wait" u say "how will i make the lights all different and cool"

Well that's what the new thing is: a machine where you stick individual bulbs and tubes in, or hopefully, possibly, a box of tubes or bulbs to iterate the contents.

For the player, they will click on the light color doohickey with an empty hand and get a prompt for what color they should be. Hack/emag for UV (and possibly other fun types of bulbs later).

Then, it's as simple as stuffing the light thingies in there and then having them pop out. One at a time would obviously suck, so if it's possible to mass load and mass unload, that'd be great.

Basically, imagine a hopper that accepts dumped items from a cardboard box (with a produce satchel/disposal chute style prompt), runs through them like the food processor does and basically for every unbroken incandescent bulb, whatever it is, it dumps out an incandescent bulb of the new color type. Don't bother checking what color it currently is, just assume A Process Is Occurring. And then spits them out, either one at a time (you must pick it up) or into a box or other container.

This is part of a larger decluttering/variety-handling concept where things are a lot of different types of colors. Sometimes it's better to transmute existing stuff instead of just, leaving it there as clutter, both on station and in all the various fabricators.

also it's a mark of refinement and attention to detail: a good janitor will come into your bombed out fucked up area and replace broken tubes with working tubes that may or may not clash. a great janitor will come into your bombed out fucked up area with matching color temperature tubes and make it look good. skill ceiling raised

or maybe this is a bad idea but eh!!!!

hey so here's an idea to make this bespoke stuff even more interesting:

how about instead of fuckin around with converting types to other types, we just take any bulb and let the user specify their own combination of R, G and even B...

and then the prebuilt colors can stay in their stupid ass manufacturers

e: also make it consume from an internal tank of Colorful Reagent
